Resources, Articles, and Downloads

Most of the resources I have created generally live on the blog I have curated for over 10 years, JazzBariSax.com.
You can see a full list of the articles on the site (mostly penned by myself) by clicking here.

Below are some resources that I would like to highlight for anyone interested.

Interesting Saxophone Patents

With some extra time on my hands lately, I’ve had time to trove through Google’s repository of scanned and cataloged patents. A few hours yielded over 70 patents that I saved because they are interesting, bizarre, or patents of mechanisms that would become universal. All of these patents are from before 1943 and are publicly available if you want to find out more about them. Enjoy!

Baritone Transcriptions

In addition to a number of transcriptions I myself did, the Transcription Repository on JazzBariSax.com contains well over 100 jazz solo transcriptions of baritone saxophonists. They are all free.

Head over to the repository and download some for yourself.

An article I recently wrote for the Vandoren E-Newsletter (WAVE). It covers a bit of the history of the bass saxophone, both the players as well as the instrument itself. There are also a number of video examples and it covers a lot of the modern practitioners of the horn. So if you have any interest in learning a little about the bass saxophone, head on over and give it a read.

Extended Technique for Saxophone

I have tried to compile a complete list of extended techniques for the saxophone. If you have any to add please let me know!

Check out the full list.

Check out an article I wrote years ago that was eventually published in Downbeat magazine about how the baritone saxophone came to be under appreciated and how it has just as much potential as all of the other saxophones.
